FRIDAY - Mexico City
You come to see the sights of this modern world capital and discover the heart and soul of the ancient Aztec Empire. In order to preserve and protect the city’s rich colonial atmosphere, the Centro Historico has received a UNESCO designation as a World Heritage Site. Your host hotel is located within the very heart of this zone. Practicalities walk: Zocalo, Diego Rivera murals, Cathedral, Aztec ruins. Conclude with a visit to La Ideal, the “Disney” of cake decorating.

SATURDAY - Teotihuacan/
Full-day touring includes the Plaza of Three Cultures, Shrine of Guadalupe, and the mammoth Teotihuacan Pyramids. Today’s near the pyramids includes a visit to an orphanage (please bring basic school supplies), maguey demonstration, and a fascinating tortilla competition. Try your hand (literally) on the traditional comal.

SUNDAY – Xochimilco/Cuernavaca Homestay
Travel south to Xochimilco, where you’ll be treated to a boat ride on the ancient Aztec canals. Next, visit Casa Azul, where Frida Kahlo was born, lived as an artist and where she spent her last days. Cuernavaca’s climate offers springlike temperatures and lush tropical foliage and flowers virtually year ‘round. And because of the city’s urbane-but-mellow atmosphere, chances are you’ll find yourself feeling relaxed. Following your language center orientation and brief placement exam, you’ll meet your host family and begin your acclimation to your new culture.

ABOUT YOUR HOST FAMILY:
Middle class host families are selected and constantly monitored by the language institute. Bring family photos and community mementos to share. Host families provide full room and board. Everyone is expected to practice their Spanish in the home and devote a minimum of one hour daily to homework. Participants normally share with one other group member of the same general language ability.

MONDAY-FRIDAY – Daily Language Classes
Daily half day language sessions (from 2-5 students per native teacher) meet from Monday-Friday. Following a mid-morning break, students participate in Guided Conversation. Then it’s before comida with your host family: songs, folk dances, piñatas, weaving, etc. The institute confirms daily availability.
